Really simple... Cooling System

Ensuring your Mini runs at optimal temperature and remains stable on the road is crucial for performance and longevity. In this instalment of our Bogus 2 Mini restoration series, we'll delve into the cooling system and engine stabiliser upgrades we've implemented.

Upgraded Radiator

A Mini Sport four-core radiator is installed in Bogus 2, offering increased coolant volume compared to the standard Rover side-mounted radiator. This extra capacity is crucial as we've eliminated the internal heater

Custom Hoses for a Perfect Fit

Artel supplied custom hoses tailored to our specifications, omitting the internal heater connection on the lower hose. The top hose remains a conventional saloon style. We stock a range of Radiator Hoses, Explore Now >

Expert Tip:

As mentioned earlier, proper airflow management is vital for optimal cooling. Ensure your cooling air flows through the radiator cowling aperture, not through missing inner wings or gaps in the bonnet lid.

Enhanced Stability with Upgraded Engine Mounts

We've replaced the top engine steady with a DSN Classics adjustable light billet alloy unit featuring poly bushes. This high-quality piece utilises a rose joint for precise adjustment. The bottom bracket on the bulkhead was re-welded during bodywork prep, as these brackets are prone to cracking.

Adding a Touch of Flair:

For a bit of visual appeal, we've installed a stainless clutch master cylinder base plate from Smiffy's Bits, ensuring the rubber seal is properly fitted underneath.

Trumpets and Air Filtration:

We’ve stuck with the standard front, lower gearbox steady for the moment, with poly bushes. We can add extra rear steadies to the gearbox if needed. There didn’t appear to be an issue when the car was being dyno’d. You can fit as many as four lower steadies. Also just visible here is the oil sump plug temperature sender for the ETB DigiDash2.
